Stripes + Brights

A recent summer trend I have noticed everywhere - on city sidewalks, in fashion magazines, and on Pinterest, is the mixing of navy stripes with bright colors.

I love this concept and had to try it myself so I scoured my closet to use what I had.  I found some items I had purchased within the last year that allowed me to attempt this preppy look.  I finished off my ensemble with simple jewelry, a vintage bag, & loafer shoes that I wore to a golf tournament – how fitting!

Signature Silver

As much as I love shopping for anything new, I do have some favorite jewelry items that have become my go-to pieces.  I wear these silver earrings, bracelets, & rings almost everyday.   Whether it’s day or night,  whether I am wearing a casual outfit or something a little nicer, these are my standard pieces.  Although these are all silver, I love the mixing of designers to create a unique look.

Color Blocking: Part 2

Another recent color blocking outfit I wore involved the mix of orange & light blue {again, I’ve worn this outfit TWICE in the last 2 weeks – did I mention I love color blocking?} I chose to add neutral accessories to balance the 2 contrasting colors, and wear my favorite signature silver jewelry I almost ALWAYS have on {I plan on highlighting my go-to jewelry in my next post!}

Color Blocking: Part 1

I absolutely love the concept of color blocking, and am so excited it is all the rage in fashion currently (so much more original than predictable “matchy-matchy” outfits).  I love it so much in fact that I plan on highlighting 2 recent outfits I wore that involve this trend that I hope is here to stay.

I wore this ensemble to the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ concert in Columbus a few weeks ago (although I must admit I wore this outfit even before that!) and was pleased to realize how much I have in my closet that can be used to color block.  No shopping necessary!

T-shirt by StyleMint, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's exclusive T-shirt line

olive green J Crew pants + LC Lauren Conrad gold wedges

side view of wedges {However, I opted for flats for the concert!}

rose gold Gorjana earrings + candle from The Candle Lab, a favorite local Columbus business

Red Hot Chili Peppers' concert, an incredible show!

Happy Sunday, have a great week!

Neutral + Neon

I have always loved neutral colors (I do not care to admit to how much gray I have in my wardrobe), and I think there are few styles more chic than a neutral pallete of clothes and accessories.  I adore the contrast of neutral & neon together, and love that it is seen all over Pinterest and current fashion trends.

I recently tried out this look with neutral shorts, a blazer, an oversized clutch & my nude Jimmy Choos with a neon green shirt.  Best part? I didn't even need to buy anything new to wear this trend.

Last of the New

    I recently wore a green dress that was one of the last purchases I made before I gave up shopping.  I had been looking forward to wearing it, but had no idea how to wear it and with which accessories.  I decided to go with a non-matching clutch (LOVE color blocking), neutral heels, and gold jewelry.  The best part about this dress is it is made of material that will work in almost any season – can’t wait to repeat in the fall!

MAY without shopping

As I mentioned in my first post, this year I would like to invest my money I'd normally use to shop to engage in more meaningful experiences.  These experiences can range from buying local produce from Columbus' beloved North Market, hosting birthday celebrations for friends, or attending the plethora of (free!) art shows and festivals that happen throughout summer.  Each month I'd like to highlight some of these occasions to remind myself of all of the exciting things I did that did NOT involve shopping.

Here is what I did in May:

fish taco dinner on the patio of MoJoe Lounge

The Avett Brothers concert at the LC Pavilion

Cleveland's Guitarmania outside the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

cookout + rooftop living with friends from home

Memorial Day with a Columbus-made Luna Burger + my mom's fabulous potato salad

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Hidden Gems

In my previous post I mentioned using items in my closet that I may not love, but am learning to appreciate.  I am also keeping myself out of temptation by rediscovering clothes and accessories I fell in love with at one time, but have been forgotten and/or pushed to the back of my closet.

Whether it’s a classic clothing item or trendy piece of jewelry, I am actually excited to shop in my own closet for the next 11 months + 2 weeks!

Me & Ro earrings {buy here}

lace piece from Anthropologie

pair of older Dior sunglasses - rediscovered them in time for summer!

black Gustto clutch {shop here} + enjoying gourmet chocolate & champagne at the wonderful Chocoholique in the Short North

Have a great week!
