Brewery Living

On a recent trip to Denver, my boyfriend and I did a little brewery hopping at two of the local brewing companies to get food and beer, of course.  It was such a fun day and the weather was perfect for flats and tights instead of winter boots {I am SO ready to put mine away and start wearing cute flats and heels!} Denver has a causal feel to it, but I thought it was the perfect opportunity to wear my favorite leather skirt and a colorful chunky sweater.  Great weather, great day, and great BEER!

Faux Fur February

Although it has been bitterly cold here in Columbus, I have acquired {AKA borrowed AKA temporarily stole} a winter wardrobe staple that makes this weather more tolerable - my Mom's faux fur coat! It has been hanging in her closet for a long time, and although it is a little big on me, when it's THIS cold, out who cares? It is so comfy and warm, and I feel like it makes any outfit look chic when all I really want to wear is a snowsuit.  As much as I am ready for spring, I will be a little sad when I have to put this coat away {or give it back to its rightful owner.....}

Dior sunglasses, John Hardy bracelet, David Yurman bracelet, Ellen Himic Rosette ring {buy here}, Ippolita ring

Shopping Temptations: TJ Maxx

Even though I probably like shopping a little too much, I have to give myself a LITTLE bit of credit for being a bargain shopper.  I, before I gave up shopping, was a loyal TJ Maxx and Marshall's shopper.  I am always pleasantly surprised to find my favorite designers for incredible prices, and I know that I will head to these stores once my year of no shopping is complete.  I recently went to a TJ Maxx store in Columbus to look for non-fashion related items, and was able to resist temptation of all the amazing pieces I found.  Here are some clothes and accessories I encountered that made me very excited to be able to shop again:

Kate Spade bag and shoes {love the bow!}

Rag & Bone wide leg chartreuse pants {OBSESSED!}

Salvatore Ferragamo bag

Tory Burch shirt

Nanette Lepore shirt {would be so cute with high waisted black pants!}

Rebecca Minkoff bag

Joie top

Halston Heritage {would be great for wedding season!}

Anna Beck jewelry {one of my FAVORITE jewelry designers}

Alice + Olivia shorts {make me so excited for spring!}

Kate Spade bag {this bag is PERFECT!}

Tory Burch navy blue leather jacket

If anyone encounters any of these pieces, feel free to send them my way :)

Pretty in Pink

I bought this pink winter coat in college, and I still love it today just as much as I did when I purchased it.  I love the unexpected pastel color for winter, especially since the cold months of January and February can be dreary.  I typically pair my coat with with matching pink earmuffs and scarf my Dad bought me for a Christmas a few years ago. This coat with my pink winter accessories is something that I think will always be a part of my wardrobe!

As of today, I have not shopped for 9 months! I cannot believe how fast the time has passed, but it honestly gets more difficult not to shop - maybe because I know the end is near and I am DYING to add some new pieces to my closet! It really has been a rewarding journey so far, and I love hearing my friends tell me how they are trying to go through a period without spending money on fashion-related shopping! Of course I often think about what I will buy once my year of no shopping is over, so here are some items that have recently caught my eye:

JANUARY without shopping

January is usually cold and dreary, but this past month has actually been so fun! I love not having any major plans in January after the holidays, and trying to find new ways to keep the month exciting.  When it comes to not shopping, this January was honestly challenging; there were so many amazing after-holiday sales, but somehow I pulled through and stuck to my vow.  Here is what I did in January that did NOT involve shopping:

made homemade brunch with the boy on a lazy day

got Sunday morning coffee with the girls at Grandview Grind

took a walk around my neighborhood in the Short North

drank so much green tea {often times with biscotti} to stay healthy and warm

went wine tasting with the girls at Hausfrau Haven in German Village

Happy February!

Designer Spotlight + Deal: Ellen Himic Designs

I've mentioned in previous posts that I tend to gravitate towards independent and emerging designers when I'm shopping for accessories; David Yurman is lovely, but there is something to be said for owning a unique piece of jewelry by an up-and-coming designer.  One of my FAVORITE designers is Ellen Himic Designs, a jewelry brand that embodies luxury, craft, and ornate details {check out here}.  Ellen Himic's collections are influenced by architecture and the beautiful, intricate details found in architecture.  Ellen Himic's stunning pieces have graced the pages of magazines such as InStyle, Good Housekeeping, Vogue Japan, and People Style Watch, and have been seen on television shows including Gossip Girl, Nurse Jackie, and Entourage.  I love all of my Ellen Himic pieces and I'm sure you can understand why:

Those are the Ellen Himic pieces I have collected over the years, and I honestly love each of them; I am pretty much ALWAYS wearing at least one of my Ellen Himic pieces.  I know it seems like I own a lot of her jewelry, but how could I not want more?  Here are some of Ellen Himic pieces that I am currently coveting and considering purchasing after my year of no shopping is complete:
